Stephen A. Nurkiewicz, MD graduated in 1986 from Jefferson Medical College, receiving the Hobart Hare MD Award for excellence in Internal Medicine. After completing his Family practice Residency at Abington Memorial Hospital he started his solo practice in Hammonton, NJ. There he developed one of the first Occupational Medicine programs in the region, chaired the Department of Family Practice/Pediatrics for Kessler Memorial Hospital, and served as school physician for several local school districts.
Dr. Nurkiewicz has affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania and Thomas Jefferson University as a clinical preceptor for the Advanced Practice Nursing Program, Atlanticare Regional Hospital for Occupational Medicine and Family Practice, and Virtua Hospital. He is a Senior Aviation Medical Examiner for the FAA as well as a certified Medical Review Officer.
Leadership positions held by Dr. Nurkiewicz include Board Chair as well as President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer of the New Jersey Academy of Family Physicians in Trenton, NJ, and Government Affairs Committee Chairperson. He was featured on Healthline cable television, and participates in Speakers Bureau for companies such as the American Cancer Society, Pfizer, Boering-Ingelheim, Sanofi-Aventis, and Norvartis. He moderated an Expert Panel that published a Family Practice enduring CME publication on COPD, and helped develop a national COPD and Spirometry multimedia program.
